About The Kelly Carter and Thomas Leffler Memorial Scholarship 5K Run

Carter Rehabilitation & Aquatic Centers of Tecumseh and Adrian are honored to hold The Kelly Carter & Thomas Leffler Memorial Run in conjunction with The Fall Appleumpkin Festival.

Kelly Carter was a well known and respected physical therapist in the Lenawee County area for 10 years. He was the founding director of Carter Rehabilitation & Aquatic Centers of Tecumseh when it opened in March of 1993. His commitment to his career and dedication to his patients earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in February, 1998.

Kelly realized the importance of a quality college education. The Kelly Carter Scholarship Fund was initiated in 1995 to assist Lenawee County students who were entering various ancillary medical fields. Since the scholarship's initiation, Carter Rehabilitation Centers have awarded over 55 scholarships to Lenawee County students. Each year the Kelly Carter Scholarship Walk/Run raises the funds for these scholarships.

Thomas Leffler, co-owner of Carter Rehabilitation & Aquatic Centers, and his brother "Doc", expanded their private health care practice to Lenawee County in March, 1993. Thomas received his physical therapy degree from Ohio State University in 1959. For over 60 years as a physical therapist and principal of R & F, Inc., Tom worked tirelessly to provide health care services, restoring a quality of life to those with whom he came in contact. He was highly respected by a support staff that shared his common mission in health care. Thomas F. Leffler passed away at his home August 1, 2019.
